Dinosaurs rock. This is a fact, and if their science celebrity status weren’t enough, here’s a list of songs perfect for any paleo pop playlist.
They Might Be Giants – “I Am a Paleontologist”
This song is so catchy that I’ve seen a room full of scientists dancing to it at a Society of Vertebrate Paleontology annual meeting after party. There is no better theme song for prehistoric explorers.
Charmer – “Mesozoic Mind”
Dinosaurs didn’t have hair, but, as this song from the classic kid’s documentary Dinosaurs! demonstrates, they were quite accomplished at hair metal.
Tom McFadden – “Fossil Rock Anthem”
Need to learn some fossil dance moves? Check out Tom McFadden’s parody of LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem” to get some Mesozoic moves.
Shiny Toy Guns – “My Reptile Friend”
Not all dino songs are party anthems. This song from Shiny Toy Guns is a more somber tribute to the extinct dinosaurs that still live in our imagination.
Weird Al Yankovic – “Jurassic Park”
An important musical PSA about the dangers of Jurassic Park, though I’d wager it’s just as scary in the light when dinosaurs are running amok.
And that’s just to get started. What are your favourite fossil-themed tunes? Chime in via the comments!
